What does «calorímetro adiabático» mean in Spanish?
- An instrument used to measure the specific heat of solids and liquids that has the particularity of reducing to a negligible value the heat that can escape from or penetrate into its interior. In fact, the term "adiabatic" means precisely "impenetrable to heat or opposed to its transmission"; of course, a perfect adiabatic calorimeter is impossible (there is no perfect closed system), but an adiabatic calorimeter is specially designed to come as close as possible to that model or ideal system. An adiabatic calorimeter approaches the ideal model (improves its accuracy) if the heat exchanged between the cell and its surroundings is reduced. This can basically be achieved in three ways:
Examples of use in Spanish: "determinación del calor específico empleando un calorímetro adiabático".
