What does «bermellón» mean in Spanish?
- Red pigment; a solid, very heavy, bright scarlet product, which, when finely ground, makes a beautiful permanent pigment. It is used in the preparation of underwater paints, called patents, for the purpose of preventing fouling of ship bottoms, as well as for coloring rubber, paper, and sealing wax. Vermilion is a variety of mercuric sulfide, HgS, and is prepared by subliming the black sulfide obtained by heating mercury with sulfur or by the wet process. In the latter process, which, although more economical, does not yield as fine a product, the mercury and sulfur, suspended in a caustic potash lye, are gently heated until the black sulfide formed in principle becomes the red variety.
- Scarlet red color.
