What does «avellana» mean in Spanish?
- Fruit of several species of the genus Corylus (commonly known as hazelnut), of the birch family (betulaceae). Fifteen species are known in the wild in the form of deciduous shrubs or small trees with alternate serrated and generally hairy leaves. The male and female flowers appear before the leaves and grow separately on different parts of the branches. The male flowers bud in long, yellowish, pendulous catkins, laden with pollen, which is carried by the wind to the small clusters of female flowers. These consist of tiny ovaries with thin protruding red styles, surrounded by small scaly bracts.
- Hazelnut color.
