What does «arqueobacteria» mean in Spanish?
- Name that designated the group of unicellular microorganisms that today make up the Archaea domain (the other two are Bacteria and Eukarya, within the three-domain system). They are characterized by the absence of a nucleus (prokaryote), most of them very small (0.5 to 5 microns), and with rod, spirilla and cocci forms. Most of them reproduce by fission like bacteria. Under the name of archaebacteria, prokaryotic bacteria were classified as part of the ancient kingdom Monera, a classification that does not exist today.
