What does «arcángel» mean in Spanish?
- Angel of a higher order belonging to the eighth heavenly choir, as implied in the Greek meaning of the word: "chief angel". In the Old Testament the supernatural beings associated with God were divided into several orders. The division became more specific with the contact of the exiled Hebrews with the Babylonians. But the names of the angelic beings did not begin to appear until the Hebrew people did not know the beliefs and customs of the Greeks and Persians after their exile. The New Testament reserves to the archangels the highest position in the angelic scale (I Thess. 4:16; Jud. 9).
Examples of use in Spanish: "el arcángel Gabriel".
