What does «Alá» mean in Spanish?
- In Islam, a proper or personal name applied to God when he is not invoked under that of his many attributes. It is not derived from any other word and has never been used except to designate the divinity. According to Arab lexicographers, no pre-Islamic idol has ever received such a name. The cornerstone of the Islamic faith, the oneness of the divine being, is expressed in the words la ilaha ill-Allah, meaning "There is no God but Allah".
