What does «xilórgano» mean in Spanish?
- Ancient musical instrument, composed of cylinders or rods of compact and sonorous wood. It is also known as zilórgano or jilórgano. It appeared in Europe for the first time in the 17th century. Similar to the xylophone, it is composed of wooden or clay cylinders that are placed on a trapezoidal frame. Inside the frame we find the small keyboard, formed by wooden rods that, when pressed, activate the hammers that hit the cylinders and the sound is produced.
- Sometimes the word xyloorgan is used as a synonym for the instrument called wooden psaltery, which is a plucked or sometimes plucked stringed instrument, which has no keyboard or apparent relation to the previous one.
