What does «vaguada barométrica» mean in Spanish?
- In meteorology, trough refers to a scale in the synoptic Baric figure or an arrangement of isobars (in the field of atmospheric pressure) with a typical shape of a U or V in which the atmospheric pressure progressively decreases when entering its interior. It is therefore an area of low pressure in which baroclinic instability manifests itself leading to the formation of extratropical cyclones with associated weather fronts; it is a battle zone between different air masses, then it is a carrier of bad weather conditions. Along with high pressure capes and anticyclones, it is one of the key Baric figures for the interpretation of weather conditions on weather maps.
