What does «suberina» mean in Spanish?
- An organic substance, impermeable, fatty in nature, derived from the transformation of cellulose from the cells of cork and similar plants. Suberin, cutin and lignins are complex, higher macromolecules of the plant epidermis and peridermal cell wall, which form a protective barrier. Suberin, a complex polyester biopolymer, is lipophilic and is composed of long-chain fatty acids called suberinic acids and glycerol. Suberins and lignins are considered covalently linked to lipids and carbohydrates, respectively, and lignin is covalently linked to suberin and, to a lesser extent, cutin.
