What does «Secoya» mean in Spanish?
- Secoya ethnic group, also known as Aido pai, Angotero, Encabellado, Huajoya, Piojé, Siekopai. It is an indigenous people that lives in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon. They speak the Pai Coca language (also called redwood). In Ecuador the number of redwoods is close to 400 people who are mostly located in three settlements Eno, San Pablo de Katitsiaya and Siecoya Remolino, all located on the banks of the Aguarico River. Their territory covers 40,000 hectares of Ecuador along the Shushufindi, Aguarico and Cuyabeno rivers in the state of Sucumbíos.
