What does «se» mean in Spanish?
- pers. Third person reflexive personal pronoun in both genders and numbers. Example: He fell madly in love with her.
- This pronoun is used in the accusative (se fue a su casa), in the dative when combined with the accusative (se lo dije) and in no case admits a preposition. It is also used to form impersonal sentences (se habla de una reforma) and in passive voice (el tabaco se cultiva en Cuba). It is enclitic when it complements a verb in the infinitive (mostrarse), in the gerund (diciéndose), in the imperative (cállense) and sometimes at the beginning of a sentence (also used figuratively).
