What does «samán» mean in Spanish?
- American tree of the mimosaceae family, very corpulent and robust, with small leaves and pink flowers. It reaches an altitude of 20 m, is slow growing, has shallow roots and is long-lived. It is native to Central and South America. Its range extends from southern Mexico to Peru and Brazil, but it has been widely introduced in South and Southeast Asia, as well as in the Pacific islands, including Hawaii. It is often placed in the genus Samanea, which by other authors is subsumed entirely under Albizia.
