What does «rol prescrito» mean in Spanish?
- Also called ascribed role, it is the set of obligations that necessarily accompany the status or social position that one occupies. In other words, it is the way in which society expects someone to fulfill a role. The prescribed role of a doctor, for example, is to cure or do what is possible to cure the patient, the prescribed role of a teacher is to teach, etc. On many occasions the prescribed role is a form of social/familial pressure to "do what must be done" and not necessarily what one wants to do.
