What does «protoevangelio» mean in Spanish?
- First promise of messianic health, made by God to Adam and Eve of a future Savior, contained in Genesis chapter III. In Christian theology, the proto-gospel is God's statement to the Serpent in the Garden of Eden about how the woman's seed would crush the serpent's head: "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15)
- An apocryphal gospel, called the proto-gospel of James, probably written around the year 150 and centered on the infancy of the Virgin Mary and the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. It is preserved in about 20 medieval manuscripts from the 12th century onwards. It was never included among the canonical gospels.
