What does «pregón» mean in Spanish?
- An advertisement for a commodity or service on the street and shouted out loud.
Examples of use in Spanish: "se escuchaba a lo lejos el pregón del heladero".
- Announcement that is still made in certain towns, by means of the town criers, of an order, public interest entry or communication of the town hall. Very common at the beginning of a celebration. The proclamation had its heyday at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
- Literary speech pronounced by someone to inaugurate certain festivities.
Examples of use in Spanish: "pregón de Semana Santa".
"un pregón abrirá las fiestas municipales".
