- A plant of the bromeliad family that lives on trees (epiphyte), up to 2 m long. Flexible stems, with long gray leaves. It is used as a scouring pad and for ornaments. It is found throughout the Americas, growing especially in warm climates and high humidity. It is also known by other common names such as agavepalo, barba de viejo, chimecate, cuapaste, cuarque, estopa de los árboles, guajaca, heno, melena, paste de cerro or tacari.
