What does «parénquima» mean in Spanish?
- Plant tissue, consisting of cells of approximately spherical or cubic shape and separated from each other by meatus, that performs vital functions. In plant organisms the term parenchyma, or parenchymatous tissue, indicates a series of filling tissues, very active from the metabolic point of view, with large intercellular spaces.
- Tissue of the glandular organs. In other words, it is the tissue that performs the specific vital functions of an organ. In animal organisms it represents a tissue that constitutes the main, active and functional mass of a cellular agglomerate, part of an organ or of an organ as a whole. It is often structurally associated with one or more tissues with a nourishing and supporting function, called stroma.
