What does «paralítico» mean in Spanish?
- Sick with paralysis. The term is usually applied to persons suffering from some type of paralysis, usually in the legs. A paralytic may lose or diminish to some degree the motility of some muscles, either because of lesions in nerve pathways or in the muscles themselves. Cases of paralysis can occur without nerve or muscle lesions, such as myasthenia, for example. Hemiplegics and tetraplegics are paralytic.
Examples of use in Spanish: "al automovilista quedó paralítico tras accidentarse".
"perro paralítico vuelve a caminar tras trasplante celular".
- Paralytic strabismus. A form of strabismus with involvement of some extraocular muscles or related nerves. It occurs as a consequence of paresis or paralysis of one or more extrinsic muscles of the eye.
- Non-paralytic strabismus. This is the most common form of strabismus in pediatrics, i.e. without involvement of the extraocular muscles. More than 50% of the deviations correspond to inward or convergent deviations. Both eyes are affected by a muscular imbalance without functional deficit of any muscle.
