What does «paracleto» mean in Spanish?
- Advocate or assistant.
- In Christianity, the name used to refer to the Holy Spirit. Also parakletos. Etymological origin The word parakletos is a verbal adjective, often used to call someone to help in a court. In the Jewish tradition the word was transcribed with Hebrew letters and used for angels, prophets and the righteous as defenders before the court of God. The word also acquired the meaning of "one who comforts" (cf. Job 16:2, translations of Theodotion and Aquila; the LXX has the correct word parakletores). It is probably a mistake to explain the Johannine parakletos on the basis of a single religious background. The word is full of complex meaning: the Spirit stands in for Jesus, is an advocate and witness, but also comforts the disciples.
