What does «pacana» mean in Spanish?
- Common name for a tree of the genus Carya, native to North America, about 30 m tall and with a thick trunk. Its wood is very appreciated, similar to walnut, of dark red color, it is hard but elastic, it is used for the elaboration of golf clubs, bows, skis and furniture. Scientific name: Carya illinoinensis.
- Fruit of this tree. It is a dry and proteic fruit, similar to a walnut, and for this reason it is known as American walnut, incarcerated walnut, island walnut or pecan nut. It is used in the preparation of desserts.
