What does «otero» mean in Spanish?
- Isolated hill in a flat area. It is also called witness hill. It is a residual relief product of erosion over millions of years. The rivers and rains erode the layers of soft rocks arranged horizontally, leaving the layers of hard rock. If the high plateau is attacked by erosion from all sides, then the hills appear with flat summits. Examples of witness hills are: Pilot Mountain, in North Carolina; the Dori plateau, in Burkina Faso; Cerro La Teta, in the peninsula of La Guajiray; and the hills in Guayan, Venezuela; there are also Cerro Buenavista, Cerro de los Angeles, Cerro del Viso and Cerros de la Marañosa, all within the Community of Madrid (Spain).
Examples of use in Spanish: "vamos a escalar aquel otero".
"desde el otero el pastor puede vigilar mejor su rebaño".
