What does «maguey» mean in Spanish?
- Textile plant, also called pita, with long triangular and fleshy leaves, ending in a sting. Its flowers are yellowish in a bouquet on a central bud. It is also called the plant of the century because it can live several decades before producing flowers. Once the plant flowers and produces seeds, it dies. It is native to Mexico, but is cultivated all over the world.

♦ Used in: Ecuador - Cerro Magüey. Geog. Name of a mountain located in northwestern Venezuela, in the state of Anzoátegui. It is located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, east of Laguna de Magüey and Cerro las Trincheras, west of Cerro Monte Cristo and north of Cerro Vidono.
