What does «escribido» mean in Spanish?
- Old regular participle of escribir. It is only used, and with an active meaning, in the familiar locution "read and written", which indicates that someone is educated, seems to be so or presumes to be so. But it was said especially of the one who was considered to be learned and presumed to be so before others. For any other use, the participle of the verb "escribir" that should be used is the irregular "escrito".
Examples of use in Spanish: "Yo también soy hombre leído y escribido", Paso Palinuro - 1977.
"más parecía señor leído y escribido en mal trance que personajillo de dudosos caminos", La lucha inútil - Página 18, Ramón Ayerra - 1984
"Gobernador, señor leído y escribido, que conoce los autores italianos y españoles", La voz de la Religión - 1839
