What does «coágulo» mean in Spanish?
- Mass of curdled or coagulated substance, which may be blood, milk, etc.
- Coagulated blood. Blood that hardens from liquid to solid. It is a viscous agglomerate composed mainly of fibrin (blood protein).
- Blood clot. A blood clot formed inside veins, arteries or the heart is called a thrombus. When it breaks off to travel from one side of the body to the other, it is called an embolus. Both a thrombus and an embolus can partially or completely block blood flow in a blood vessel, thus preventing oxygen from reaching the tissues in a given area as it should. This is called ischemia, which, if not treated in time, can cause irreparable tissue damage and even death. These clots can be formed by excessive rest, certain positions for a long time, during and after pregnancy, certain medications, after surgery, etc.
Examples of use in Spanish: "se le ha formado un coágulo en el corazón".
