What does «carbonato» mean in Spanish?
- Salt resulting from the combination of carbonic acid with a simple or compound radical. The most abundant is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as it is found in mineral forms (calcite, aragonite), forming sedimentary rocks (limestone, marl) or metamorphic rocks (marble) and is often the natural cement of some sandstones. Depending on the pH, they are in chemical equilibrium with bicarbonate and carbon dioxide. Many carbonates are unstable at high temperatures and lose carbon dioxide as they transform into oxides. They are also usually poorly soluble in water.
