What does «anagénesis» mean in Spanish?
- Anagenesis (or phyletic evolution) is a mechanism of biological speciation, which consists of the progressive evolution of living species. Anagenesis involves a change in the gene frequency of an entire population, rather than a bifurcation (cladogenesis). When an entire population is distinct from its ancestral population (mutations are sufficient and stable enough to make it distinct from the previous one), it can be categorized into a new species. The ancestral population can be considered extinct.
