What does «agave» mean in Spanish?

Pita or maguey. A yellowish plant, native to Mexico, with large, fleshy leaves, one of whose varieties produces a sugary liquid with which pulque is made. From the agave the aguamiel is extracted that is fermented in the tinacales to elaborate the pulque.
