What does «advección» mean in Spanish?
- Advection is the variation of a scalar at a given point, due to the effect of a vector field. It describes the transport in a fluid. The fluid is described mathematically for such processes as a vector field, and the transported material as a scalar concentration of substance, which is present in the fluid.
- The horizontal translation of an air mass and with it its properties such as temperature, pressure and humidity. Meteorological advection follows isobaric surfaces and is, therefore, mostly horizontal. It is very important in the formation of orographic clouds; it also plays an important role in the water cycle.

- Advection is the transport mechanisms of a substance or fluid. For example, transport of pollution by a river, transport of heat by water or air or other fluid. Sometimes the term advection is used synonymously with convection. However, technically speaking, it is preferred to use convection as a way to describe transport by molecular and eddy diffusion combined; whereas advection is used to describe transport with a general fluid flow (as in river or pipeline).
- Scalar advection. The advection of a scalar by the wind depends on the intensity of the wind, the gradient of the scalar and the angle between the directions of both vectors. The intensity of the advection is directly proportional to these factors.
- Vorticity Advection. It is the process by which the rotational component of the wind (vorticity) is transported by a vector, in this case, the total wind. It can also be evaluated as the change in vorticity with respect to time at a given point.
