What does «voz activa» mean in Spanish?
- The active or direct voice is the unmarked or most frequent voice in the sentences of a language, whether the language is nominative-accusative or absolutive-ergative. In it the conscious agent of an action that performs, executes or controls the action of the verb, that is, it is an agent subject. Example: Juan walks the dog. The verb is the active voice, since the subject (John) performs the action of the verb. In other words, a sentence is said to be in the active voice when the meaning of the verb is produced by the grammatical person to whom it refers. Example: "Juan de Garay founded the city of Santa Fe".
