What does «tataré» mean in Spanish?
- Large tree, between 8 and 15 m high, mimosaceous, generally thorny, compound leaves, yellowish-white flowers, whose yellow ochre wood is used in cabinetmaking, shipbuilding and as firewood. From its bark is extracted a dyeing material. It is found in northern Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil. It is an endangered species. Scientific name: Chloroleucon tortum (or Pithecellobium scalare) Other common names: tatan, tatané, espinillo.
