What does «mapuche» mean in Spanish?
- A group of indigenous inhabitants of south-central and southwestern Argentina, including parts of present-day Patagonia. The term collective refers to a broad ethnic group composed of several groups that share a common social, religious and economic structure, as well as a common linguistic heritage as Mapudungun speakers. Their influence extended from the Aconcagua River to the Chiloé archipelago and later extended eastward to the Argentine pampas.
