What does «descolonización» mean in Spanish?
- The process of ending the status of a colonized people or territory, the opposite of colonization. Decolonization is a process by which a colony manages to get rid of the colonial power to which it was subjected. It can take the form of independence, integration into an administrative power or, failing that, into another state, or the establishment of a status of free association. Most decolonization processes have involved some degree of violence, but it can also take place through dialogue and agreements. The UN has established that in decolonization processes there is no alternative to the principle of self-determination.
