What does «decibel» mean in Spanish?
- Unit for expressing the intensity of sounds, which is equivalent to one tenth of a bel. It is symbolized dB. Neither the bel nor the decibel are units of the International System of Units. One bel is equivalent to 10 decibels and represents a 10-fold increase in power over the reference magnitude. Zero bels would be the value of the reference magnitude. Thus, two belios represents a hundred-fold increase in power, three belios equals a thousand-fold increase, and so on. In other words, a dishwasher emitting 50 dB of noise is not louder, it is 10 times louder than a 40 dB dishwasher and 100 times louder than a 30 dB dishwasher.
