What does «castaño de Indias» mean in Spanish?
- A genus of large trees belonging to the Hypocastanaceae family. They reach a height of 30 m. They have mottled flowers and fruits composed of brownish pods, each containing a large seed. Many species of horse chestnut are cultivated as shade or ornamental trees in the temperate regions of the N hemisphere. Some species provide a limited amount of soft, commercial wood, used in the manufacture of boxes, shavings and cheap furniture.
