What does «calomelano» mean in Spanish?
- Name given to mercurous chloride, ClHg, also known as calomel. It was first described by Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1789. It constituted at one time the most popular of purgatives, as well as the favorite remedy against biliousness, which was attributed to excessive secretion of bile. The medical use of calomel has been abandoned because it causes important functional and metabolic disorders in the tissues with which it comes into contact.
