♦ Used in: Peru - In Botany, a genus of 14 species (8 accepted) of flowering plants belonging to the family Chrysobalanaceae (Chrysobalanaceae). This genus is native to southern India, Thailand and the western Pacific. This genus was described by Constantine Samuel Rafinesque and published in Sylva Telluriana 153 in 1838. For example, tabon-tabon (Atuna racemosa) belongs to this genus (it is the type species of the genus). Its fruits are traditionally used to make kinilaw, a well-known dish of raw fish in vinegar or other citrus juices.
