What does «altica» mean in Spanish?
- Generic name of many small coleopterans, harmful when feeding on crops. This genus began to be described in 1762 by Geoffroy. It comprises about 300 species of beetles of the family Chrysomelidae distributed almost everywhere on the planet. The species are similar to each other, small metallic blue-green-bronze beetles, often distinguished from each other only by the aedeagus (intromittent copulatory organ of male insects).
