What does «Comisaría de abastecimientos» mean in Spanish?
- The need for the intervention of the State of Spain to ensure the supply of foodstuffs and raw materials in the nation and to avoid abusive price increases led to the creation, by the Dato Government, on October 3, 1917, of the General Commissariat of Supplies, to which all the functions related to supplies were transferred, although depending on the case, on the Ministries of Finance, Development or the Interior. On September 3, 1918, the Commissariat was transformed into the Ministry of Supplies, which was suppressed on May 8, 1920, and the suppressed Commissariat was re-established. This second stage of its existence was not very long either, since a Royal Decree of September 11 of the same year suppressed it again. It was replaced by a General Delegation of Abastos (Royal Decree of July 11, 1924) and later by the General Directorate of Abastos (Royal Decree-Law of February 28, 1925), both under the Ministry of the Interior.
