A Roman bust of Mithridates VI sculpted in the 1st century AD. (i.e. more than a century after Mithridates was defeated) by a Roman sculptor. Here, he is depicted in the lion's headdress of Hercules - the implication being that the Romans respected his ferocity in historical retrospect, even though he had been a bitter enemy of Rome.
