The Hindus called these energies doshas and classified them as follows: vata represents air and governs nervous and motor functions; pitia is the vehicle of metabolism, an indispensable factor in digestion; kapha symbolizes earth and water and regulates structure, coherence and strength. The doshas circulate in the body through channels or srotas and the most important thing is that they are in balance.
