The beach invaders are rare animals, distant relatives of crabs, spiders and insects. In fact, they bear little resemblance to any of them, for the lemulids - as they are called - are the only present-day representatives of a group that was numerous more than 210 million years ago, when, probably in another geography, they performed the ritual of conquering a beach to lay their eggs.
