The Epicureans avoided politics, the Stoics supported the existing political structures, and the Cynics scoffed at everything without offering positive suggestions for change. This was a far cry from the serious enquiry of a Socrates, a Plato or an Aristotle in attempting to establish a virtuous form of politics.
