If blood from the Macacus rhesus monkey (hence the Rh symbol) is injected into a rabbit, anti-Rh antibodies are formed in the rabbit. Rabbit serum causes agglutination of red blood cells in 85 percent of men and is therefore called Rh+, while the remaining 15 percent are Rh-.
