Like all the peoples of the great ancient civilisations, the Aztecs (like the Mayas) had a very advanced knowledge of astronomy. This is attested by the famous Great Stone Calendar, carved by the Aztec chief Axayacatl in 1479, which reveals knowledge superior to that of other civilisations.
