- Very venomous viper, common in coastal areas and grasslands of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. It reaches a length of between 1 and exceptionally 2 meters. Scientific name: Bothrops alternatus. Common names: urutu, wutu, viper of the cross, yarará picuda (Arg.), picuda del delta (Arg.), mbói-cuatiá (Par.), mbói-kwatiara (Par.), mboí cuatía (Par.), crucera (Urug.), boicoatiara and boicotiara (Brazil).
