What does «saran» mean in Spanish?
- Any of various thermoplastic resins impermeable to water, oxygen and aromas, used in packaging and piping. Usually obtained by polymerization of vinylidene chloride: used in extruded or molded form to make various acid-resistant fabrics, pipes and fittings, transparent wrapping material, etc. It has good thermal stability, but above 125 °C it decomposes to produce hydrogen chloride (HCl). It has superior chemical resistance to alkaline and acidic media, is insoluble in organic solvents, does not absorb moisture, so it is impervious to mold, bacteria and insects, but is soluble in polar solvents.
