Like all participles, it always denotes past tense and perfective aspect; "emparentado" forms the compound or perfective tenses of the regular conjugation in Spanish: he entroncado, había entroncado, habré entroncado, habrán entroncado..., it is also used to conjugate the passive voice and to form subordinate clauses.
