What does «bauxita» mean in Spanish?
- Alumina hydrate found in a soft reddish rock. A grayish-white to reddish-white earthy rock originating from prolonged weathering in warm climates of aluminous rocks. It is a mixture of several impure aluminum hydroxide minerals such as gibbsite [Al(OH)3] or hydrargillite, boehmite and diaspore [AlO(OH)]. It is the most important ore of aluminum and also has many other uses: manufacture of abrasives, alum and other aluminates, manufacture of refractories and calcium aluminate cements and clarification of molasses (as a reagent).
